Do LIFE Groups provide childcare?
Great question. Some groups do… Some groups don’t… Some groups have families with children who need childcare and they pitch in to hire a babysitter together. If you do need childcare, be prepared to consider this option. Your LIFE Group is an opportunity for you (or you and your spouse) to grow together in God and you owe it to yourself to take the time to enjoy your group without interruption.
Do LIFE Groups provide refreshment / food?
Most of the time. Most groups provide or coordinate refreshments or meet at a place where you’re free to grab a cup of coffee or a meal. Usually the person who hosts either provides or coordinates refreshments.
Should I bring a Bible?
Sure! Having a Bible when you show up for your LIFE Group is great, but it’s not a requirement. Plus, if you want a Bible, but don’t have one, we can provide one for you here at the church. See one of the staff/Pastors and we’ll make sure you get one.
When and where do LIFE Groups meet?
LIFE Groups can meet in homes, coffee shops, restaurants, workplaces, even here at the church if necessary – any space that can host a group of people for an hour or more is a potential meeting spot. Most of our groups are located in homes. We’ve tried to offer locations in the general Kirkland/Bellevue Eastside area. We’re hopeful there will be one very conveniently located near you!
Groups also meet throughout the week and at different times of the day – from 7AM in the morning before work, to evening groups. All of the available days, evenings and times will be listed for you in the LIFE Group catalog.
What do we talk about at LIFE Groups?
Most of our LIFE groups are sermon based, meaning Pastor Mike puts together a list of questions that enable group members to discuss the sermon from the past Sunday in a little more detail, and go a little deeper in applying the lesson to their own personal lives. And although the idea is to share and get closer to other group members, each member decides their own level of sharing. No one will ever be forced to share.
We also have groups that offer specific Bible study curriculums for men and women. You will see those in the LIFE Groups catalog.
Will I have to pray in front of anyone?
No. Not unless you want to. No one is ever singled out to do anything in front of the group. Only YOU determine the level of your participation, interaction and involvement.
How long do LIFE Groups typically last?
Most groups last about an hour and a half to two hours. But the structure of the group depends on the people and the topic. Starting and ending times vary and will always be included in the LIFE Group directory.
Why don’t LIFE Groups run year round?
A couple of reasons: short semesters give leaders a chance to take a break and get refreshed. It also gives us a chance to offer a variety of topics and add additional groups three times a year. Finally, it also gives new people a chance to get involved by joining a group or taking the plunge into LIFE group leadership.
Who can I talk to if I have questions about LIFE Groups?
We want to hear from you. If you’ve got any questions or want to find out how you can lead or host a LIFE Group, feel free to contact Kristin Ford at kristin@lifekirkland.org.
